Shelbourne Motor Group
Biomass Pellet Boilers to turn its 29,500 sq.ft. showrooms and workshop space into a warm working environment.
Intro
Client: Shelbourne Motor Group
Sector: Commercial Automotive (Showrooms & Workshops)
Location: Portadown
Role: Design, Supply, Install, Commission
G.E.E. delivered a whole-site heating decarbonisation project for Shelbourne Motor Group, replacing oil-fired heating with a high-efficiency biomass system. The solution was designed to serve large open-plan showrooms and workshop areas, improving thermal comfort while significantly reducing operating costs and carbon emissions.
Technologies installed
- 3 × 99 kW and 1 × 40 kW biomass pellet boilers
- Fully automated biomass heating system
- 45 tonne fuel storage capacity
- Integration with existing heating and hot water systems
- RHI-compliant heat metering
Key challenges and programme management
- Heating large-volume spaces with high ceilings
- Integration with existing heating infrastructure
- Fuel storage and delivery logistics on an operational site
- Compliance with Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) requirements
Project outcomes
- Replacement of oil heating with renewable biomass
- 30–40% fuel cost saving compared to oil
- CO₂ reduction of ~162 tonnes per annum
- RHI income providing long-term revenue (20 years, index linked)
- Estimated payback period of 3–4 years
System overview
The biomass system supplies heating and hot water across 3 showrooms and 5 workshop areas. Fully automated operation ensures efficient performance, while integrated heat metering enables accurate monitoring and RHI compliance.
Client impact
The project has delivered a warm, consistent working environment while transforming energy costs into a long-term financial benefit. The switch to biomass has significantly reduced carbon emissions and positioned Shelbourne Motor Group as a leader in sustainable operations within the automotive sector.
